La Traversée Miraculeuse
Location : Hangar 16, Quais du Vieux-Port
Artists : Les Charbonniers de l'Enfer; Meredith Hall (soprano); Lisa Ornstein (Quebec fiddle); David Greenberg (Nova Scotia fiddle); La Nef.

Traditional Scottish and Quebecois music from the 18th century, as passed down through aural tradition to the 21st century. A concert illustrating the Anglo-French struggle for supremacy in this colonial outpost in the New World.

Chinoiseries
Location : Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours
Artists : Qian Yi (soprano); Samantha Louis-Jean (soprano); Youping Wu (dizi and percussions), Wen Zhau (pipa), Fang Ye (percussions), Yang Guiying (make up artist) and Les Voix Humaines.

Montreal Premiere! Love songs from 17th century France and China. Kun Opera, banished in China during the Cultural Revolution, will be heard for the first time in Montreal at this concert! Chinese decorative arts became the rage in Europe during the 17th century and Chinoiserie was the décor of choice for harpsichords! Chinese pastries will be served.

Artists : Budowitz Ensemble (Budapest-Berlin)

BENEFIT CONCERT
Budowitz (Budapest, Berlin & New-York) ‘period’ Klezmer band on 19th century instruments. Concert followed by a dance party with caller Avia Moore

Bach Cantatas: Tribute to Glenn Gould
Location : Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours
Artists : Monika Mauch (soprano-Germany); Daniel Taylor (countertenor); the Bande Montréal Baroque, Eric Milnes (conductor).

Montreal Baroque offers a concert of Bach cantatas dedicated to Glenn Gould directed by Eric Milnes. The Bande Montréal Baroque will be joined by soloists Monika Mauch and Daniel Taylor. Cantatas BWV 170 and 210 will be performed.

SAFFRON SOIRÉE: Tabla d'Haute
Location : Cirque Éloize / Gare Dalhousie
Artists : Pandit Sharda Sahai (Tabla); Ramesh Mishra (Sarangi).

BENEFIT EVENING
World renowned virtuoso tabla and sarangi players in a recital of Indian “classical” music. Pandit Sharda Sahai is a descendant of the first tabla virtuoso born in Banares, India, in 1775.

Artists : Samantha Louis-Jean (soprano), Chris Coyne (tenor), Jean-François Gagon (actor), Ensemble Diolkidi (percussions), Oswald Duran (Haitian flute), Ensemble Caprice; Jeanty, Jocelyne Saint-Leger (choregrapher) and Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière (choregrapher and stage director).

Afro-French cultural history of Haiti through the music and dances of the Chevalier de St George, Rousseau, Rameau and Grétry and Voodoo dances and music.

Chinese Letters

Artists : Wen Zhao, pipa; Lucas Harris, lute (Toronto) and an actor.

Lute and Pipa illustrate the novel by Canadian Ying Chen : love letters between Montreal immigrant, Yuan, and Sassa in Shanghai. Note: 90 steps to climb!

Artists : Masques Ensemble

Ensemble Masques is coming of age! The complete book of Rameau’s "Pieces de clavecin en concert" will be performed by Montreal’s young artists. Rameau was one of the most popular composers amongst the French colonialists in Haiti during the 18th century.

For the anniversary of a Canadian legend, the incomparable pianist, philosopher and film-maker, Glenn Gould! Rachelle Chiasson-Taylor, harpsichordist, musicologist and Gould expert will be joined by international guests to talk about Gould’s influence on the Baroque movement and performance of Bach .
